Steilacoom Lodge #2

VOLUME 4, ISSUE 10

 October 2002 Newsletter

Friday, October 11th  is Past Masters night.  This dinner is to honor all of our past masters.  All members are encouraged to attend.  WB Glen Henderson has agreed to prepare a feast of baked ham and all the fixings.

Your WM visited Olympia No. 1 on the 11th for a Third Degree and also on Saturday the 12th for Tri-Lodge.  At Tri-Lodge I had the honor of meeting with our Grand Master and the Grand Master o AF&AM  Oregon.  I was pleased to see a nice turn out from Steilacoom for this annual event.

Our next stated meeting in October is step up night.  Our officers are all looking forward to working in the next chair.  Come out and lend your support.

Howdy Brothers and Sisters!

Happy Halloween!

Hope y’all have enough candy for all those little trick-or-treators that will knocking on your front doors!  The Widow’s and Lady’s Honor Night turned out well.  We had about 35 guests that night and the ladies from Unplugged put on a fantastic show.  We have the Past Masters night coming up and our regular stated meeting on the 18th, so I hope to see y’all there. We will be having chicken cordon blue as the main coarse at the stated meeting.  Seems I over planned for the Honor Night.  Well that’s about it for this month. Y’all take care and be safe in all your travels. And may your candy bowls be full so the tricksters will miss your house!

Tom K. SW

May all your travels be safe,
May the wind always fill your sails,
May your table be filled with plenty,
And may the sun keep you in its' warm embrace!

Hi Brethren,

I do not have much to say for this newsletter. I am busy with the year-end papers of the Lodge and writing to all of our brothers who are being considered NPD for this year. Please check your Dues card. If it is not a year 2002, you are being considered as NPD. Please forward your dues as quickly as possible. Thanks!

Hi Brothers

As you know I am the new Editor of our Moonlighter!  Some times I get a lot of input from our brothers and some times I don't.  If your Newsletter looks a little thin, write me a note and give it to me in Lodge (hint about more Brothers attending) or even better, e-mail it to me.  My e-mail address is mike.smitson@attbi.com.  I would love to get some little bit of our Lodge History included in our monthly Moonlighter!

This past month (September 2002) has been a very busy one for our Lodge.  First, we had our Stated meeting, and as our Senior Warden wrote, our Honor the Ladies and Honor our Widows Night.  Then we had the District 14 and District 15 Meeting with our Grand Master held at Parkland-Lakewood Masonic Center.  A good time and food were had by all who attended these meetings.  Our stated had "Pizza's" served as the main course.  Cordon Blue was the main course of the Honor night and Prime Rib was served at the District Meeting!  We have been eating well in September.

A few of us visited Ever Green State # 68 in September for a Third Degree.  It was beautiful to see all the brothers coming out for this degree.  It was also a beautiful degree as all the brothers having parts in the drama were wearing costumes as well.

October is lining up to be just as busy as September, if not a little bit busier!  See our schedule above in the announcement part of the Moonlighter.

Some of us also visited Henry A. Greene # 250 on October 3rd for a third degree.  Although the costumes were not worn, the degree was still beautifully done.

Steilacoom Lodge #2

Tidbit!

Steilacoom Lodge's Second Worshipful Master had a town named after him!  This action was taken because of the tremendous efforts of this man during the Indian Wars.  Worshipful Brother Slaughter died of wounds suffered the Wars.  The town of Slaughter has been renamed.  Do you know the name of this town now?

A Few Good Words

Beyond Success

By

Howard B. Kittleson

Beyond success — We have Love.

Beyond success — is The Power of Positive Thinking by Ill Norman Vincent Peale, 33rd Degree, Grand Cross, whose famous dictum “Think big, affirm big, pray big, and big things happen” has changed the lives of many.

Beyond success — are the finest physicians and hospitals in America, including the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, famed worldwide for excellence in health care.

Beyond success — are the Shriner’s Hospitals for handicapped children and burn patients, at no cost ever to parents or guardians.

Beyond success — we have Social Security, a self-contributed insurance plan for retirees, so they may retire with dignity and without fear of financial stress.

Beyond success — is our country and its “Pledge of Allegiance” to “one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” reminding us of our blessings.

Beyond success — is life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as set forth in the Declaration of Independence.

Beyond success — is the creation of man in God’s image, the greatest miracle in the world, to care for all His creation...

Beyond all other success is spiritual success, transcending all barriers, all to the glory of God, the Supreme Architect of the Universe.
