Welcome to Steilacoom Lodge # 2 Moonlighter Online!
|
Moonlighter for August 2004 |
VOLUME 6, ISSUE 8 |

Greetings Brethren,
I hope that this missive finds you all happy, healthy and enjoying the summer. We have been quite active in Steilacoom Lodge since last month. The 4th of July street fair was great! We had a nice showing of brothers and the Masonic float was very well received. Yours truly got to ride the float! It was a neat experience that I shall remember a long time.
We recently added another brother to our fold. My nephew, Sean Prather, was initiated on the 23rd of July. Thanks to all that made it out for the degree. I am going to gently chastise those that didn't make it... we had more visitors than we had members. My brothers, degrees are the introduction of candidates to the lodge. The more of his new brothers that he gets to meet, shake hands with, and participate with, the more that candidate will feel like he belongs. So, even if you don't have an official part, the part you play on the sidelines is invaluable. 'Nuff said.
I heard the WB Frank Hume was in a home accident the other day. Please keep Frank in your thoughts and prayers.
That's it for this month. Enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the moonlight and remember this... if it is a Friday night and you are sitting on the front porch by the light of the full moon... you are SO WRONG ! You ought to be in Lodge! Take good care my Brothers.
Fraternally yours,
Joe Fuller

HELP WANTED!
Brethren,
A couple of months ago our Worshipful Master asked for a volunteer to understudy our Lodge Secretary. Our elected and installed Secretary, Brother Frank Lawler, is on active duty with the Army and will be departing this area in January.
VWB Cybulski has been filling in as Secretary Pro Tem. However he cannot attend Lodge on the 4th Friday of each month (the 4th Friday is on or before the full moon) starting in September, for the rest of the year.
A resolution to amend our By Laws to change our meeting date was voted on at the last meeting. The resolution was defeated by vote of the brethren.
Contact with Bro Lawler has been made!!! He is not deploying in the near future. His Reserve Unit may get called up, but not in the near future. This is good news! Also Bro Lawler said he would be at the EA Degree on August 13th.
The Secretary Pro Tem is informing us that there are some brethren who have not paid their dues and/or assessment for the current year. Check you dues card! If it does not say good for the year 2004, send in your check now!
Also, WB Bruce Gardner is requesting 8 of our Brethren to assist him in the setup, manning (preparing and selling the pop corn and soda's) and tearing down. He is looking for 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon.
So far, he has one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Please contact WB Gardner at 581-2450. Your help is needed.

Our 150th Celebration continues this month with the Joint Masonic Church Service in DuPont on August 8th. We will start our march to church with the Prince Hall Masons at 4:30 PM. The Masonic Float will be there also!!! We need a lot of Masons walking (If you can...riding if you cant) with the float. Lets show the Prince Hall Masons that we also care and will outnumber them this year. For the past few years, they have out numbered us at this Church Service.

The Cemetery Cleanup will be rescheduled. When we get the word, bring weed eaters if you have one. We have planned for lunch and refreshments to be served to keep you going.
At our 30 July stated meeting, a thank you note was read to the members present for the excellent cleanup earlier this year!!!Bro. Charley Mills

Kaffee Klatsch
Catch the 0900 ferry in Steilacoom, wander up the hill and be prepared for hot coffee and a fresh goodie. This happens on every Tuesday! Well, almost every Tuesday! I will send e-mail to most who come on Mondays! But wait!!! Jerry is out sailing around right now...and I have learned that the Lodge building will be open for this tradition. Please continue and attend the meeting place of the Kaffee Klatsch at Steilacoom Lodge...every Tuesday at 0900. Well until Jerry returns in a couple of months!!!
I can promise you refreshments, you bring the friendship and fraternity and we all will have a fun morning. It seems that our discussions are getting increasingly interesting. Keep it up!!
Y'All Come, Y'A Hear!!!
Jer and Glenn

Friday the 23rd of July, we performed the EA Degree. The Worshipful Master requested that the Electronic Lecture be given this time, as he had not seen the lecture and wanted to see it in Lodge. There were quite a few others that wanted to see it also. We had a very good turn out. We will be doing another EA Degree again this month (the 13th of August) and again the Electronic Lecture will be given.

THE WORKING TOOLS OF AN E-MASON
I now present to you the Working Tools of an e-Mason. They are the Mouse, the Keyboard, and the Modem. The Mouse is to move within the desktop, the Keyboard to input data, and the Modem to publish the data to cyberspace.
However, as we are not here assembled as computer nerds, but rather as Operative e-Masons, these tools are downloaded as vehicles of a moral significance, and to show us the true meaning of e-Masonry. Thus we apply these tools as follows:
The Mouse teaches us to keep within due bounds of the screen, a square where upon we must all meet.
The Keyboard shows us that communication will lead us to a better understanding not only of each other, but with all mankind.
The Modem reminds us that even when we are alone on the most remote part of the globe, we may meet and gain moral sustenance from each other, and thus learn more of the wonderful works of the G.A.O.T.U.

Steilacoom Lodge's History for the first 100 years was published in 1952. It is therefore a challenge to all Past Masters and our long time members to provide something to add to this book so that we may publish a 150 years of Masonry for Steilacoom Lodge #2. We need your history or your memories of the past 50 years to make it possible. Yes, we have the Minutes of the Meetings, but that is not the full story; the funny things that happen in Lodge or at a Special gathering; the antidotes that come and go; the untold story of how the Moon Plaque was made and presented; anything that makes up our history as a Lodge! Please send your stories, articles, and other memories to me, by e-mail to Mike.Smitson@Comcast.net. Or by regular mail to my home at: 9826 Coral Dr SW Lakewood, WA 98498. Or to the Worshipful Master, Joe Fuller. Or to WB Tom Kingsbury.
Lets publish a great 150 years of Masonry of Steilacoom Lodge #2, of the Most Worshipful Free and Accepted Masons of Washington! -- The Editor.
